The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme is a long-term social visit pass designed for foreigners who wish to retire, work remotely, or simply enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in Malaysia. Here are the key terms and regulations for new participants, as of July 22, 2024:


Eligibility Criteria


  • Age: Applicants must be at least 25 years old.

  • Income:

    • Below 50 years old: Monthly offshore income of RM40,000 or more.

    • 50 years old and above: Monthly offshore income of RM10,000 or more.

  • Financial Requirements:

    • Below 50 years old:

      • Minimum liquid assets of RM1,500,000.

      • Fixed deposit of RM1,000,000 in a Malaysian bank.

    • 50 years old and above:

      • Minimum liquid assets of RM1,500,000.

      • Fixed deposit of RM150,000 in a Malaysian bank.


Visa Duration


  • The initial social visit pass is valid for 10 years.

  • It can be renewed for another 10 years.


Residence Requirements


  • Participants must spend a minimum of 90 days in Malaysia each year.

  • This requirement can be fulfilled by either the principal applicant or their dependents.


Property Purchase


  • Participants are required to purchase a property in Malaysia worth at least:

    • RM600,000 for those below 50 years old.

    • RM1,000,000 for those 50 years old and above.

  • The property cannot be sold for 10 years. However, it can be upgraded to a higher-value property.


Other Requirements


  • Valid passport with at least 18 months validity remaining.

  • Medical insurance for those below 60 years old.

  • Good health certificate.

  • Police clearance certificate.

The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program was first introduced in 2002 to draw expatriates to retire or live in Malaysia for an extended period, in sync with the 'Cuti-cuti Malaysia' concept.

MM2H is a long-term visa scheme that allows foreigners to reside in Malaysia for up to 15 years with multiple renewals possible. It's popular among retirees and anyone seeking a tropical lifestyle in Southeast Asia.


Gold category holders will have a 15-year Multiple Entry Visa (MEV), while Silver category holders have a 5-year MEV, with an option to renew.


Those in the Platinum category can also earn Permanent Resident status after obtaining their MM2H pass.

Age Eligibility

Age 30 and above

Application Method

Only through authorized MM2H agents licensed with MOTAC under the Tourism Industry Act

Dependencies

  1. Spouse (wife / husband);

  2. Natural children / stepchildren / adopted children (under 21 years old);

  3. Children with disabilities (no age limit) certified by medical experts;

  4. Natural children / stepchildren / adopted children (between the ages of 21 and 34) who are not working or not married in Malaysia;

  5. Parents and/or parents-in-law.


Application Category


  • PLATINUM


Financial Terms
  • Fixed savings deposit (FD) amounting to RM5 million (USD1.05 million);

  • A maximum withdrawal of 50% is allowed after one year for the purpose of purchasing real estate (limit to the value of RM1.5 million and above), health and traveling within Malaysia.

Minimum Length of Stay
  • Be resident in Malaysia for at least 60 days (cumulative) in a year;

  • For participants aged 30-49 years, existence / residency in Malaysia must be fulfilled either by the principal or their respective spouses / dependents.

MM2H
  • Eligible to obtain permanent resident (PR) status after obtaining a MM2H pass.


  • GOLD

Financial Terms

  • Fixed savings deposit (FD) amounting to RM2 million (USD420,800);

  • A maximum withdrawal of 50% is allowed after one year for the purpose of purchasing real estate (limit to the value of RM750,000 and above), health and traveling within Malaysia.

Minimum Length of Stay
  • At least resident in Malaysia for 60 days (cumulative) in a year;

  • For participants aged 30-49 years, existence / residency in Malaysia must be fulfilled either by the principal or the respective spouse / dependent.

MM2H

  • MM2H pass valid for 15 years as well as Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) for principal and dependents which can be renewed.


  • SILVER

Financial Terms

  • Fixed savings deposit (FD) amounting to RM500,000 (USD105,000);

  • A maximum withdrawal of 50% is allowed after one year for the purpose of purchasing real estate (limit to the value of RM750,000 and above), health and traveling within Malaysia.

Minimum Length of Stay

  • At least resident in Malaysia for 60 days (cumulative) in a year;

  • For participants aged 30-49 years, existence / residency in Malaysia must be fulfilled either by the principal or spouse / dependent respectively.

MM2H

  • MM2H pass valid for 5 years as well as Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) for principal and dependents which can be renewed.


Participants aged 30 to 49 can fulfil residency requirements either individually or collectively with their spouse or dependents.


MM2H Application Procedures


Here's a breakdown of the general MM2H application procedures, as of January 2024:


1. Initial Enquiry:


  • Visit the MM2H portal or contact an authorized agent for initial guidance.

  • Submit a formal enquiry through the agent.


2. Document Preparation:


  • Gather and prepare required documents:

  • Application forms (available on the portal)

  • Passport copies

  • Proof of income

  • Bank statements

  • Medical reports

  • Police clearance certificates

  • Other supporting documents as needed


3. Submission of Application:


  • Submit complete application package to the Immigration Department through the agent.


4. Assessment and Approval:


  • Immigration Department reviews application for eligibility.

  • If approved, you'll receive a Conditional Approval Letter (CAL).


5. Entry to Malaysia:


  • Travel to Malaysia within 6 months of receiving CAL.


6. Fulfillment of Conditions:


  • Undergo medical check-up in Malaysia.

  • Open a fixed deposit account in a Malaysian bank.

  • Purchase medical insurance from a Malaysian provider.

  • Submit these documents to the Immigration Department.


7. Visa Stamping:


  • If all conditions met, the MM2H visa will be stamped in your passport.

The process typically takes 6-9 months from submission to visa stamping. The processing time may vary depending on individual circumstances and application volume.


Application Fee


The application fee is currently RM500 for principal applicant and RM250 for each dependent.
